You realize the Tonys don't get the hype the Oscars do. The audience for Broadway is much more limited than the audience for movies. The Broadway audience is limited to people who live in New York and tourists. Whereas movies are released in cinemas nationwide and eventually make it on to DVD thus a wider audience.

(I haven't really paid attention to the world of theater since I left college.) I guess it's like the 70% of Americans who disapprove of George W. Bush are radical leftists.
